The FZ-X plays on the idea of a hot-rodded Maestro Fuzztone. It has three RCA transistors (2N2614s while limited stocks last!) and is powered by a single AA battery like the FZ-1A. It comes from a parallel universe where The Yardbirds’ Heart Full of Soul was a bigger hit than The Stones’ Satisfaction.
Louder and hairier than the Fuzztone, the FZ-X has two controls for Volume and Attack. It also has a three-position switch on the output capacitor. You can choose between the stock Fuzztone value and two new alternatives: either a slight volume and bass boost or a bigger volume/bass boost heading into Tone Bender territory.
This pedal represents Good Fuzzy Sounds’ aesthetic: it takes the building blocks of the 60s to create something new and expands the possibilities of fuzz.
Vintage pitch stripboard, hand-painted and stamped in a super-cool trapezoid enclosure.
